We will be heading to Guatemala again to provide free dental care to the small villages of Alotenango and Jocotenango. These are some of the poorest towns in Guatemala.  Last year our small team was able to treat 125 patients (out of 125 patients, only 5 have seen a dentist previously). There was a HUGE need in this area and we were NOT able to treat everyone who wanted and needed care last year. They report tooth pain and difficulty chewing with no way to treat it or cope with it.  A little about Alotenango and Jocotenango: Many families in Alotenango and Jocotenango live below the poverty line and particularly the children suffer from poor living conditions and lack of adequate education and healthcare. Education is not mandatory in Guatemala so most of the children work to raise money for their families instead of going to school. Many of the townspeople farm for a living making about $5 a day. Health and dental care are almost non-existent here and the people do not have cars or means to receive care elsewhere. With so many families struggling to meet their basic needs, oral healthcare is far from a priority and tooth decay is a massive problem.
