Meals Matter existe gracias a nuestro club local de Kiwanis. No nos dieron una estad&iacute;stica, nos abrieron los ojos a cu&aacute;n real era la inseguridad alimentaria para las personas a nuestro alrededor, ni&ntilde;os con los que &iacute;bamos a la escuela. Eso fue lo que nos impuls&oacute; a empezar, y nos llev&oacute; directamente a Way Forward, la despensa que nos dio nuestra primera asociaci&oacute;n real y nos ense&ntilde;&oacute; c&oacute;mo se hace realmente este trabajo. Nuestro objetivo en el primer a&ntilde;o parec&iacute;a casi vergonzosamente peque&ntilde;o en papel: recaudar 100 libras de comida y $100. Recaudamos 1,700 libras y $600 solo en nuestra primera campa&ntilde;a. Desde entonces, Meals Matter ha crecido en m&aacute;s de 25 cap&iacute;tulos en 8 estados y 2 pa&iacute;ses, totalmente administrados por estudiantes. Ahora trabajamos junto a Way Forward, Second Harvest, Metro Market y muchos otros incre&iacute;bles socios que nos han respaldado en cada paso. Juntos, hemos recolectado m&aacute;s de 170,000 libras de comida y recaudado $80,000 para nuestras comunidades, y cada d&oacute;lar de eso fue directamente a las personas que lo necesitaban. Ni un centavo nos ha financiado. Todo se destin&oacute; a la misi&oacute;n. Eso es de lo que estamos m&aacute;s orgullosos. Y tambi&eacute;n es por eso que ahora estamos pidiendo ayuda. Two high schoolers, one food drive, and a goal so small it&#39;s almost funny in hindsight: 100 pounds of food, $100 raised. We hit 1,700 pounds and $600 instead. That gap between what we expected and what actually happened is the whole story of Meals Matter. We started because we saw kids we went to school with going hungry and couldn&#39;t look away. A conversation at our local Kiwanis club opened our eyes to how widespread it really was, and it led us straight to Way Forward, the food pantry that gave us our first real partnership and taught us how this work actually gets done. Since then, Meals Matter has grown into 25+ chapters across 8 states and 2 countries, entirely run by students. No adults telling us what to do. No corporate structure calling the shots. Just kids who saw a problem and decided to fix it themselves. We now work alongside Way Forward, Second Harvest, Metro Market, and partners who&#39;ve backed us at every step. Together we&#39;ve collected over 170,000 pounds of food and raised $80,000 for our communities. Every dollar of that went straight back out to the people who needed it. Not one cent has ever funded us. It all went to the mission. That&#39;s the part we&#39;re proud of most. It&#39;s also why we&#39;re asking the Edgewood Community for help now.We just became an official 501(c)(3). It&#39;s the biggest milestone in Meals Matter&#39;s history, and it opens the door to grow faster than ever: more chapters, more partner schools, more students stepping up to lead. This year alone, we&#39;re aiming to open 50 new chapters.
