Meet Shadow. 🖤Shadow is one of the urgent cases we&#39;ve had for some time, and yes- she made us cry.This little girl was found wandering near an alley before following a woman and her daughter home, almost as if she was begging for help. By the time we were contacted, she was rapidly fading. She was rushed to the emergency hospital, where she weighed only 3 pounds and was fighting for her life.She was severely anemic, dehydrated, hypoglycemic, hypothermic, riddled with parasites, and struggling to breathe. &nbsp;She was so cold her body temperature wouldn&#39;t even register. The emergency veterinarian gently prepared us for the possibility that euthanasia might be the kindest option.But something in her eyes told us she wasn&#39;t ready to give up. We gave her more time and prayed for her to pull through. She was closely monitored and the vets tended to her needs round the clock.After 2 nights at the emergency hospital, she started holding her own temperature, her blood sugar stabilized, and she was put on a course of strong antibiotics. After that Shadow was transferred from the ER to our trusted vet where more diagnostics and x-rays were performed. She still had a long road ahead, but she wanted to live. I brought Shadow home to continue her recovery in my little foster room, and I&#39;ll never forget the moment I picked her up. Tears filled my eyes as I realized just how fragile and emaciated she was. She weighed almost nothing&mdash;she felt like a feather in my arms.We immediately started her on a supplement regimen aside from the antibiotics she was receiving, appetite stimulant and daily nebulizing sessions to help her breathe.As the days passed, she started to feel a little better but we were concerned that her breathing wasn&#39;t improving despite intensive treatment. In fact, it sounded like she was struggling to breathe at times. She had trouble swallowing and hardly ate- a high calorie supplement was added to her soft food. A polyp was suspected but she wasn&rsquo;t strong enough to be sedated, so we had to wait until she gained a little more weight and her little body could handle surgery. When the surgery day finally came we were all shocked to hear the news that Shadow had three large polyps that were blocking her airway.Three.The moment they were removed, everything changed. For the first time, Shadow could breathe comfortably. The surgeon and the whole vet clinic cheered for her because she proved to be a fighter despite everything she went through. &nbsp;She rushed to her food bowl and ate with an appetite she&#39;d never been able to enjoy before. Watching her finally breathe, eat, and simply be a cat brought us to tears.Shadow is alive today because we chose hope when the odds were against her. She is recovering, continuing to gain weight and taking her meds like a champ. It will take quite a while and many more vet visits before Shadow is ready for adoption, but it&#39;s all worth it when we see the before and after.. &nbsp;If her story touched your heart, please consider making a donation.
