Our daughter Emily turned 30 on August 9. She was killed on Pacific Coast Highway in 2010, at age 13, and every birthday since has arrived without her. This year, thousands of you read her story. The Emily Shane Foundation was built on that instinct, and your gift funds both halves of it: the SEA Program, which has mentored more than 1,300 underserved middle school students, each encouraged to pass the kindness forward; and Driving Change, our fight to make roads safer so they never take another child, starting with the one that took ours. Through columns, hearings, our film, and the speed cameras we fought to get signed into law, we are driving change. $30 marks the birthday she should be celebrating. $300 goes further. $1,000 joins the three families who opened this campaign.
