Your gift to “Endurance and Ecology” helps youth, teens, and families build real skills on the land—from fire and shelter to tracking and deep nature awareness—while honoring Indigenous teachings and relationships with place.  Donations strengthen our scholarship fund, opening Fox Walkers, Family Camps, and Teen Adventures to youth and caregivers who could not otherwise attend. Give today to support hands-on caretaking, Earth Living Skills, and a more grounded connection with Mother Earth. Hey all, My name is Jamil Shakoor, I reside in Brooklyn, NY and have collaborated with 4EEE to generate support to provide youth and families a sense of what I was fortunate to experience at the Tracker School.  I want to take this opportunity to raise awareness and funds for 4 Elements Earth Education, a non-profit dedicated to re-connecting youth and their families with nature. They are doing great work advancing the message and practice of sustainability. Two summers ago I attended Tom Brown Jr’s Tracker School, (the origin of 4 Elements Earth Education), in New Jersey. It was a validating and life changing experience as I learned the basics of wilderness survival. I was impressed with the younger students previously educated by 4 Elements. They were impassioned with the wellbeing of the earth and serious about sharpening their skills. They weren’t staring at screens, they were on all-fours inspecting dirt for animal tracks, and learning to distinguish medicinal from poisonous plants--they were connecting with the land. The immersive experience grounded the concept of  “nature” for them; it was colored by the green of ivy, the purples and pinks of sunsets, and the comforting smell of burning wood at night. Text books are helpful, but its experiences like these that are crucial for re-shaping how the next generation relates to our environment, although not every family could afford the education.  I’m currently training for the Go Ruck Heavy, a team-based endurance event inspired by the U.S. Army’s Special Forces. It will be held at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on March 12, 2027. I’ll be rucking about 40 brutal miles with 30+lbs over a 24hr period as facilitators call for exercises like bear crawls through cold water, and log and buddy carries. There’s more to the event, but this act of endurance isn’t as worthy of your attention as another I've been working on. The terrain is tricky, progress is difficult to define, and there’s a lot more at stake than a finisher medal: ecological social work. I’ve been working to push along the message of sustainability and advocate for cultural shifts to help transform our relationship with nature from ruthless exploitation to reciprocity.  <img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/hxn9dbuhd/image/upload/v1788834785/wysiwyg/byawlunknjg3w4sz7bdz.jpg" style="width:377px;display:block;vertical-align:top;margin:5px auto;text-align:center;padding:0px 1px;max-width:100%" />If you’re so inclined, please consider visiting my fundraising page. For those that contribute $50 or more you will be entered into a raffle to win a training session with me, a certified personal trainer. You could use it as a hard-hitting workout, an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of strength or endurance training, or pass it along to someone you feel could use it. I will select a winner every 4 weeks until the conclusion of the fundraiser on March 14, 2027, (raffle details below). Any contribution will go a long way in helping future generations better their relationship to the environment and the community of life.  Thank you for caring.
