🌟 The New York City Dragon Boat Community Needs Your Help! 🌟 For those who aren't aware, the World's Fair Marina in Flushing, Queens, has been the home to New York City's dragon boat community since the early 1990's.  As of April 30th, 2025, it will be shut down, leaving the NYC dragon boat community without any facilities, docks, or safe and equitable access to the water to practice and continue promoting this dynamic sport.  Dragon boat racing fosters community engagement, promotes physical wellness, and celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the diverse populations that make up our city.  Evidence of the sport's popularity is the annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York, one of the largest in North America, that has drawn thousands of paddlers and spectators.  The lack of such a vital facility will greatly impact many of our local teams and members as they prepare for numerous competitions at the local, national, and even international levels. The New York Dragon Boat Alliance, Inc., (NYDBA) has been formed to help spearhead efforts to establish a permanent dock and home for the NYC Dragon Boat Community.  NYDBA is dedicated to promoting dragon boat racing and ensuring equitable waterfront access for the community. We seek your financial support to first conduct an engineering assessment and draft necessary plans for a dedicated dock for dragon boaters. We are looking to raise an initial $14,000 in funding to:1. Hire Professional Engineers – $10,000 for assessment and site feasibility study.2. Develop Dock Design & Draft Drawings – $4,000 for creating technical plans needed for approvals and construction. With your support, the NYC Dragon Boat Community can take the key first steps to establishing a new home including:- Completion of Engineering Assessment & Draft Drawings – A key milestone in securing approvals for the dock project.- Increased Accessibility for Dragon Boaters – Providing a safe, designated space for training and events.- Stronger Community Engagement – Continue expanding participation in dragon boat racing and fostering cultural exchange.
