🌟 Join us in Creating Change! 🌟At Friends of Chevra Thelim Inc, we thank all the donors who helped us reach our goal of $25,000 for the primary exterior maintenance project. Our next challenge is to secure gifts to replace the funds borrowed from our savings account that paid for the supplemental invoice for unexpected carpentry work and roof metal work. For those who are unfamiliar with us:In 1917, some Jewish families in Portsmouth, Virginia came together to create the congregation Chevra T’helim. The name means “Family of Psalms.” The building was erected in 1918. It is a rare example of Eastern European synagogues in the Southern United States. The congregation grew to around 200 families. In 1986 the building closed because the congregation had moved on to other neighborhoods. In the late 1990’s historian and community leader Zelma Rivin formed a group, Friends of Chevra Thelim, to restore the property, a major investment. In 2008, the building reopened as The Jewish Museum and Cultural Center. The Museum preserves local Tidewater, Virginia Jewish history. It hosts Jewish public lectures, film screenings and cultural programs. How you can help power our mission:

Donate: Every dollar counts. Contribute now to help us reach our goal.

Share: Share our campaign with your friends, family, and on social media.
