The Adams County Office for Aging, Inc. (ACOFA) is currently expanding their Memory Care initiatives in the county. Nearly 7 million people throughout the United States are living with Alzheimer's disease. In Pennsylvania, the number of people aged 65 and older living with Alzheimer's disease is about 282,100. Our organization recognizes the need to support individuals living with a diagnosis of dementia and their caregivers.  A few of our initiatives include a caregiver support group that focuses specifically on the caregiver. This support group provides education, tips, and is a safe space for caregivers to talk freely about how the disease process has affected their loved one. Another initiative is providing individuals diagnosed with dementia a Joy for All Companion Pet. These pets have been shown to reduce incidents of dementia-related agitation, easing the burden of care on loved ones and professional staff. Our organization is also working on providing memory screening events to individuals in the community. All of these initiatives are made possible through generous donations. Together, we can create a dementia friendly environment, raise awareness, and promote dignity for individuals living with dementia.
