Since 2016 and even through COVID, our community — from attorneys to bankers to doctors, local and state-wide — have rallied behind our effort to establish this Gala as the signal event enabling one deserving student from our county to obtain a full-tuition- paid, two-year associate degree from our local college, South Florida State College. With your help, we have met our goal every year for our annual scholarship, named for the late Janette Seamans Branham. Herself an accomplished attorney and a past president of the Highlands County Bar Association, “Jani” — as most knew her — made clear before her death how important it is for our Bar to enable each year one deserving student from our community to obtain an entire degree — full tuition paid. Indeed, before her horrible, untimely death at the hands of her husband, Jani told many this effort — though unique and ambitious — was vital for the sake of the education of young adults in our community, and that it had to endure. A short time after her death, Jani’s dream was realized by the founding of this scholarship bearing her name. The proceeds of this Gala, including those from your sponsorship, directly benefit the Scholarship fund. Let there be no doubt: your help is critical. With these lofty goals firmly in mind, we ask for your consideration of the enclosed sponsorship packages. With our presentation of the HCBA’s Lifetime Achievement Award to a distinguished member of our legal community, this year’s Gala will continue to build on the momentum of years past.
