<h1>Prison Ministry in DR Congo</h1>One of the many ministries that Revivalfire Ministries maintains is to seven prisons across seven provinces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  The conditions in these prisons are some of the worst in the world, and the toll in human suffering is enormous. The Congo is facing one of the biggest hunger crises in the world and is home to the largest number of people in food insecurity in the world – 26.4 million people (1/4 of the population) are in a hunger crisis. That puts a squeeze on the available food for prisoners.The Makala prison in Kinshasa is severely overcrowded. The prison was initially built for a thousand prisoners but now has 11,300 prisoners. Food and water are scarce, and medical care is almost non-existent—deaths are reported on a daily basis. Many are the ones we have won to the Lord and discipled. An officer in charge told us: “They all are sick and will certainly die! You feel helpless when one of the very people who are about to starve to death is looking into your eyes hoping for any kind of help at all. But on the other hand, what a feeling of joy you get when you are able to feed and care for them! We bring the Gospel to them along with Bibles, and as you can imagine, many desperately cling to the hope in Jesus Christ for salvation and have given their lives to the Lord. In the past year, over 1,000 prisoners have asked Jesus Christ to be their Savior. We have baptized 190 prisoners in a portable bathtub that we bring in with us. Many others have to wait to be baptized because of the shortage of available water. Many of those who have been baptized and many who have not have already died in prison. Thank God, we were able to reach them with the Gospel before they went out into Eternity. Many prisoners among those we have baptized have been in prison for 5 to 12 years without having had a trial.We need food, medicine, and Bibles. The cost of feeding these prisoners is not that much. A recurring monthly donation of just $50 can do so much for these souls.We also need Lingala Bibles for those who comes to Jesus and for many others. A Bible in Lingala, the local language there, costs $15 each. Anyone offering a Bible will have responded the need of more than one prisoners in this jail because they are cherished and shared amongst many other prisoners. We are calling for the global body of Christ to help us to provide basic support to both the saved and the unsaved in these Congolese prisons.
