The center already serves the community, but additional funds are needed for rent, a file cabinet, library shelves, a desktop computer, and printer, office tables for the meeting room, computer room and library, 100 plastic chairs for meetings, and a lockable file cabinet. Also, volunteer teacher stipends. The cost has not been funded yet due to emergency funds needed for floods in May 2024, and more recently for the drought relief in Zambia. The cost is estimated at $4,000. </li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Extend Stop the Spot to Other Schools - $8,000 per year for hundreds of school girls across 4 high schools Our successful “Stop the Spot” program provides sanitary supplies to young girls for years to reduce school absenteeism and increase graduation rates for girls. The community has asked if we can expand to more schools. Each school extension would cost approximately $500 quarterly or $2000 per school year, and immediate funding is crucial due to the pressing need. The total cost is estimated at $8,000 per year. </li></ol>In Kiisi, Kenya (FIOH-AKK):<ol><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Conical Multi-Story Garden Farming & Installation Training - $4,000 for 200 gardens to feed 100 families This garden looks like a wedding cake. When planted it is water-friendly and requires little space to produce more vegetables. One garden can continuously feed a family of six all year despite changes in the weather. It is self-sustaining and can be extended to more families. The total cost is about $4,000 for 200 gardens (2 gardens per family).  </li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">House Repairs - $400 for an orphanage We still need to send FIOH-AKK $400 to repair the house after a thunderstorm damaged the roof and the interior, and replace the water storage tank. </li></ol>In Chioma, Zambia (FIOH-Z):<ol><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Future Steps Business Center Support - $2,600 for a whole community Still needs funding. FIOH-Z aims to support the Future Steps Business Center in Chioma. Last spring, the business center was robbed and will need new equipment. This business center has been providing vital computer training, internet access, office-related tasks, and business supplies since 2018 with funding provided. Some of the equipment needed are a desktop computer, scanner, and laser printer. Ongoing support is sought until the center becomes self-sustaining, with assistance based on need and sent quarterly. The cost is $2,600.  </li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Youth Goat Project Well - $3,500 for a whole community Still needs funding. After FIOH-USA funded the local youth group’s goat-raising project in 2018, which is now self-sustaining, they seek $3,500 to dig a well on the farm. The well will provide vital clean water for drinking, washing, and agriculture for all in the area. </li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Drought Emergency Food Relief - $4,500 for 200 families Due to the drought in Zambia, emergency food relief is needed. This will include emergency food relief and planting kits containing seeds and fertilizer for replanting crops for about 200 families. </li></ol>Our education program needs sponsors - $23,000In both Kenya and Zambia, education ceases to be free after the 8th grade, posing a significant financial burden for families, especially those with multiple school-aged children. Each year, individual FIOH-USA donors sponsor 40+ students enabling them to pursue their academic goals and build brighter futures for themselves, and their communities. The cost per student is roughly $450. Dozens of students are currently in need of sponsorship. Your donation of $450 or more will change the lives of these students. Quarterly wires $13,500Each quarter, FIOH-USA sends $4,500 to support our partners in Kenya and Zambia. These funds help them to continue their Board of Directors work to submit proposals for self-sustaining projects thereby empowering their communities.These are programs that could start immediately if funds are available.
