The Cocoa Classic was founded in 2022 by Collin Charles Maher, a high school sophomore from Sandy Springs, Georgia, who noticed children at a local food bank wearing worn-out shoes and decided to do something about it. Over three years, Collin built the Cocoa Classic into a nationally recognized charity 5K that put brand-new shoes on the feet of more than 1,600 children in the Sandy Springs community, in partnership with Shoes That Fit.Collin passed away on May 15, 2026, at the age of 19. He was a runner, an Eagle Scout, a student at Washington University in St. Louis, and one of those rare people who made everyone around him feel genuinely seen and loved.In his memory, donations to the Cocoa Classic will now support teen mental health organizations &mdash; because mental health struggles are real, and they can be invisible even in the people who seem happiest and most full of life.100% of your donation goes directly to our mission. Donations are tax-deductible through Collins Classic Charities Corporation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit.The Cocoa Classic will run again. This time in Collin&#39;s name.
