Five Years. One Community. One Mission. For the fifth year, Chrissy Moe and Community Soul Mission are bringing our community together in support of Bridge the Gap and local children in foster care. This fundraiser is built around the idea Community Soul Mission was created for: None of us has to do everything. We can each bring what we have, and together we can create something much bigger. For Chrissy, that belief is personal.Throughout Chrissy's childhood, she was faced with poverty, homelessness, abuse, neglect, teen pregnancy, and being a middle school dropout who was fostered by the state, family, and friends. She was confronted with the tragic statistics children in foster care face. Chrissy also experienced firsthand what it means when people, programs, and community resources step in during the moments when a child or family needs support the most. Because of the help she received from community services like Bridge the Gap, Chrissy became a success story instead of becoming a victim of those statistics. That help did not erase what Chrissy had experienced or make the circumstances easy. It gave her resources, opportunities, support, and people willing to invest in what her future could become. She has never forgotten what it meant to have people outside of her family step in and help, and the true impact these programs have on children in need. A child cannot control the circumstances they are born into or the situations that bring them into foster care. But the circumstances surrounding a child should not determine what they are allowed to dream about, participate in, experience, or become. Community Soul Mission grew from a desire to pay that forward and be a part of the solution. See her story here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6lrWCRn5bU When Chrissy created the first annual Community Soul Mission fundraiser in support of Bridge the Gap, she was bringing together the two things that had become central to Community Soul Mission: recognizing a need and connecting the people and resources within the community who could help meet it. After Chrissy's first annual Community Soul Mission fundraiser in support of Bridge the Gap, that relationship grew even deeper when she joined the Bridge the Gap Board of Directors. What began with one fundraiser became an ongoing commitment. Now, five years into the annual fundraiser, Community Soul Mission, Bridge the Gap, local business owners, donors, and community members are coming together again to help local children in foster care. WHAT OUR COMMUNITY MAKES POSSIBLEBridge the Gap helps provide children in foster care throughout Southwest Washington with resources and opportunities that may otherwise be out of reach. That can include educational support and tutoring, therapy, sports, camps, extracurricular activities, clothing, school-related needs, enrichment opportunities, and experiences that help children build confidence, connection, stability, and belonging. For a child, that can mean getting to join the team.* Going to camp.* Getting the support they need.* Trying something new.* Feeling included instead of different.* And having more of the childhood every child deserves. This fundraiser is a collaboration. Local businesses contribute prizes, products, services, experiences, gift cards, memberships, and other items.* Community members donate and share.* Bridge the Gap puts those resources to work for local children.* Community Soul Mission brings people together and creates the connection.* No one person or business has to solve the entire problem.* We each bring what we have.* Together, it becomes something much bigger.
