Charred debris and yellow caution tape fill the foreground of a fire-damaged brick building under a clear blue sky.

Help us recover, preserve our history, and keep Native stories alive. After a devastating fire at the building that housed The Circle's Minneapolis office, our independent Native newspaper faces an unexpected challenge. Thankfully, with help from dedicated community members, we recovered our newspaper archives dating back to the 1980s. While the newspapers appear to have survived without significant damage, the fire has highlighted the importance of protecting and preserving these irreplaceable historical records. These archives are more than just old newspapers. They hold decades of Native community history, cultural knowledge, stories, photographs, and the voices of generations of Native people. They document important events, milestones, struggles, celebrations, and the everyday lives of our communities. This history deserves protection and should be passed down to future generations. We are asking our community, readers, supporters, and allies to help The Circle recover from the fire and safeguard this important collection. Your donations will help support:

Fire recovery: Covering unexpected expenses from the fire, including relocation, replacing affected office supplies and equipment, and restoring operations as needed.

Archive preservation: Assessing, organizing, protecting, and safely storing decades of historical newspapers.

Long-term preservation: Exploring opportunities to digitize our newspaper archives so future generations can access and learn from the history preserved within them.

Continuing Native journalism: Helping The Circle continue sharing the stories, perspectives, and voices of Native communities throughout Minnesota and beyond.

Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference.
