But until recently, our grassroots non-profit has not had a stable home in our beautiful city. In 2025, we purchased a building. We are now raising funds to complete renovations and we need your help.&nbsp; Capoeira is a unique art form originating amongst the enslaved Africans who were brought to Brazil. It served as a form of artistic, cultural expression and resistance as well as self defense against slavery and genocide. Gingarte Capoeira was founded and is led by Mestre Marisa Cordeiro, one of the highest ranking female capoeiristas in the world, who has built one of the most respected capoeira schools in the U.S. As a 501c3 organization, Gingarte Capoeira offers community classes, performs at cultural events, and provides programming to children in Chicago area schools. Gingarte Capoeira exemplifies what it means to be a grassroots organization. Now, we need your help. Our dream is to turn this abandoned church building into our forever home. We are hard at work on renovations, but there is a great deal of work remaining.
