This event was born out of an unaddressed need for hair and skin care for African American children residing in the foster care system. Many of these children face unique challenges when it comes to maintaining their hair and skin, and often lack access to the resources and support they need. Recognizing this gap, we began organizing events to provide education, supplies, and connections to local stylists and barbers who can help them maintain their hair and skin even after the event is over. Now in its 6th year, our event has had a huge positive impact on the youth who attend. It not only brings awareness to a significant gap in services for this demographic, but also helps to improve the self-esteem and confidence of the children we serve. Caregivers benefit as well, learning how to better support the youth in their care. The funds raised will be used to support activities, supplies, and items such as tables, chairs, snacks, and prizes for the youth and their caregivers.
