Help us launch the Hawthorne Community Center! Everyone has been wondering what&#39;s going to happen at the former Hawthorne Elementary School. But it&#39;s up to you. A small group of volunteers has been working with Helena Public Schools to reopen Hawthorne as a multi-purpose community center, focused on continuing education in the arts and sciences, serving the needs of the Hawthorne community. Ideas for the Center include:&nbsp; &nbsp; &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Child care services&nbsp; &nbsp; &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Teen club&nbsp; &nbsp; &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Tool library&nbsp; &nbsp; &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Music rehearsal space&nbsp; &nbsp; &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Maker&#39;s space&nbsp; &nbsp; &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Community meeting rooms&nbsp; &nbsp; &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Performance/event venue&nbsp; &nbsp; &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Biology and Chemistry labs for after-school programs&nbsp; &nbsp; &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;After-school tutorial programs&nbsp; &nbsp; &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Printmaking space&nbsp; &nbsp; &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Community photographic darkroom-- and many more.... We have signed an MOU with Helena Public Schools to work on this idea. We&#39;ve created the nonprofit corporation, but we need to establish the institution and work out a formal lease agreement with Helena Public Schools while we develop a business model to create a thriving neighborhood gathering space. We&#39;re asking for donations to help us acquire a few fundamental services: 1) Routine trash collection for the building2) Cleaning &amp; maintenance supplies3) Technology &amp; services to support community canvassing, remote meetings, communications &amp; bookkeeping4) Filing fees for our Federal 501(c)(3) nonprofit application. We can&#39;t make this happen without your help. We want to start small so as not to waste time or money. And we want to know if the community supports the idea. So we&#39;re asking for small donations at this time. We promise there will be more appeals in the future, once we have a plan for taking over maintenance of the building and reopening it for use by the community.
