It will become a center for healing, medical training, health education, innovation, and community transformation. The King Oyo Medical Center will bring together compassionate healthcare, specialized services, medical education, and appropriate breakthrough technologies to expand access to quality care for children, mothers, families, and underserved communities throughout Tooro. The project represents a simple but powerful belief:A healthier community creates a stronger generation, and a stronger generation creates a stronger future.WHY THIS PROJECT MATTERSCommunities throughout western Uganda continue to face significant barriers to specialized medical care. Patients with orthopedic conditions, chronic wounds, maternal needs, and other health challenges can face long distances, limited resources, and delayed treatment.Hands of Mercy has already witnessed the impact that focused medical intervention can make in Tooro. Its medical mission work has included specialist teams and orthopedic surgical care, including a 2023 mission in Fort Portal that completed 40 operations in three days, primarily serving children. The King Oyo Medical Center will provide a permanent platform through which this work can become sustainable, scalable, and locally rooted.WHAT THE MEDICAL CENTER WILL PROVIDE1. Orthopedic & Mobility CareThe center will develop specialized capacity for orthopedic assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and surgical referrals. The goal is to help children and adults living with physical disabilities, injuries, musculoskeletal conditions, and mobility challenges regain function and dignity.2. Maternal & Birthing ServicesThe center will provide accessible maternal health services, including prenatal care, birthing support, postpartum care, and health education for mothers and families. The emphasis will be on helping women receive care closer to home and earlier in the pregnancy and birthing process.3. Advanced Wound CareA dedicated wound-care program will address chronic and complex wounds, including wounds associated with diabetes, trauma, infection, and mobility-related complications.Early intervention can prevent complications, reduce unnecessary disability, and improve quality of life.4.
