Dear supporters,  As 2024 comes to a close, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the members, partners, and supporters who make our work possible.  We’re inspired by what we’ve accomplished together this year to uplift San Francisco’s API communities. We know that meaningful change only happens when all of us, together, are dedicated to supporting underserved APIs. Your continued support is essential to the API Council building on our momentum in 2025 through advocacy, partnership building, narrative work, research, and coalition development.  This year, because of your support, we: <ul><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Celebrated 10 years of uniting San Francisco's API communities, bringing awareness to the API community's diverse needs, and providing resources to the API community's most vulnerable at our 10th-anniversary reception in May. We also honored three API leaders at the forefront of serving San Francisco’s API communities at the reception: Gordon Chin, Assemblymember Phil Ting, and Bernadette Sy. Thank you again to all representatives, officials, sponsors, and community partners who came to celebrate with us! You can learn more about our 10-year journey here and see our impact here. </li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Hosted the only mayoral town hall of 2024 that offered interpretation services thanks to our community partner Asian Pacific Fund. Over 250 API residents left feeling empowered to make an informed decision on San Francisco’s next mayor and the five leading mayoral candidates left with a deeper understanding of the API community’s diverse needs. We were honored that Richard Lui and Gia Vang moderated our town hall and are grateful to PG&E, Perkins Coie, Luna Xu, Chinese Cultural Center, and Little Sweet for their support. You can watch each mayoral candidate’s statement, including Mayor-Elect Lurie’s statement, here. </li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Empowered 11 API-serving nonprofits by supporting the full distribution of nearly $30 million from the API Equity Fund for nonprofits to make capital improvements or acquire permanent homes. In 2024 alone, five nonprofits were awarded funding from the API Equity Fund, ensuring they can continue services for the API community’s most vulnerable without the threat of displacement. The API Council won the creation of the API Equity Fund in 2022 and each investment from the fund is a powerful signal that the API community is valued and our needs are seen. You can learn more about the API Equity Fund’s most recent impact here. </li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Ensured that the city’s social safety net for underserved APIs are sustained by securing funding for 93% of our member nonprofit’s budget requests. Over 40 critical programs supporting monolingual immigrants, elders, foster youth, and the city’s most vulnerable were able to continue into 2025. Our member nonprofits continue to be at the forefront of the city’s social safety net, providing services in 19 different languages to 15 different ethnic groups for more than 650,000 clients. </li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Amplified the priorities and diverse needs of San Francisco’s API Communities locally and nationally. The API Council hosted over seven formal discussions in 2024 between City of San Francisco representatives and community leaders at our member nonprofits on various topics including public safety, economic revitalization, the city’s budget, and community health. The API Council also attended two Biden-Harris Administration events in Washington DC to advocate for the API community’s priorities and met with US Health and Human Services Secretary Becerra while he was in San Francisco to share about our community’s needs. </li></ul> These achievements are a testament to what’s possible when we come together on behalf of San Francisco’s API communities. Looking ahead, the API Council remains committed to building the voice, visibility, and influence of San Francisco’s diverse API communities to improve the quality of life for underserved API residents. In just the first month of 2025, we will: <ol><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Release a 60-page report on the current state of APIs in San Francisco. This comprehensive report will identify the most critical needs of the city’s API communities and highlight opportunities to improve the quality of life for API residents. </li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Unveil the API Council’s new policy platform. The policy platform will provide a roadmap for how we can address the structural challenges threatening our community’s well-being and ensure that API communities in San Francisco, nearly 40% of the city’s population, can thrive. </li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Establish meaningful ways that the US Health and Human Services and API Council member nonprofits can support each other’s work through community engagement, funding, partnerships, and research by gathering the department’s key regional administrators with community leaders from our nonprofits. </li></ol>Whether it’s $10 or $1000, every donation fuels our work.
