We are reaching out with heavy hearts to share the story of Jennifer Horn, a woman who has given EVERYTHING for this country, including blood, sweat, and tears, and is now facing a tragedy no mother should ever have to endure. Jennifer enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2002 as a 63Y, dedicating herself to fixing tanks and heavy armor. She was stationed at Fort Irwin with the legendary 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and deployed to Mosul, Iraq, in 2005 to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. Service and Patriotism run deeply through her blood. On April 16, 2005, just moments after hearing incoming fire, Jennifer was hit by a mortar blast while heading to the bunker along with seven others. The shrapnel tore through her body — her face, eye, neck, arms, torso, and legs. She was medevaced out of theater, stabilized in Balad, and eventually brought home to Walter Reed. Jennifer states that despite the physical pain, the emotional toll of leaving her family behind in the combat zone was devastating.  She became the first female soldier in the 11th ACR to earn the Purple Heart for her life-altering combat wounds. After her honorable discharge, she dedicated her life to caring for others, becoming a nurse and working in corrections while slowly working toward her psychiatric nurse practitioner degree online.  Then the unthinkable happened. On December 2, 2024, Jennifer's 15-year-old daughter Grace — bright, independent, and full of heart — Grace was staying with a friend, when he offered his DoorDash account and car, so Grace could earn extra cash to buy Christmas presents. While driving that night, the car had lost control, crashed and Grace passed away on the scene. Jennifer’s world has shattered. Since losing Grace, Jennifer has declined significantly — emotionally, physically, and financially. The woman who once ran toward danger in Iraq, who rebuilt herself from wounds no one should have to bear, is now struggling in silence.  We're asking for your support — any amount helps — to ease some of the immediate burdens Jennifer and her family are facing: medical treatments, ketamine infusion therapy, mortgage and utility payments, any in-patient treatment costs, and simply keeping food on the table while we react to contact and get Jennifer life-saving in-patient therapy.
