Edward Is Home. Help Us Keep Him There. A few days ago, Edward didn&rsquo;t know where he was going to live. Today, he moved into assisted living. That&rsquo;s a pretty incredible change in a very short amount of time, and it happened because several people and organizations came together and refused to let a financial gap be the reason Edward ended up homeless again. Edward has been through a lot. A stroke and traumatic brain injury left him with limited use of his dominant arm and leg. He has difficulty with balance and mobility, needs help with everyday activities, and his leg is currently in a brace after a fall. He had also experienced homelessness and lost nearly everything he owned to theft while staying at a shelter.By the time we met Edward, he was staying temporarily in a friend&rsquo;s trailer. He was grateful to have a roof over his head, but it wasn&rsquo;t a safe or accessible place for him. He couldn&rsquo;t safely use the shower and was relying on sponge baths. Preparing meals, shopping, and simply getting through the day were becoming increasingly difficult. And there was no real plan for what came next. What Edward needed wasn&rsquo;t another temporary place to stay. He needed the right place to live. We found it. Working with his case management team and an assisted living community willing to work with his limited income, we were able to put together a plan. Edward&rsquo;s disability income will cover most of his housing and care, but he is still $300 short each month. The Golden Gap Foundation made the decision to step in and cover that difference for the next 12 months. We said yes to Edward before we had all $3,600 raised. Because sometimes you can&rsquo;t wait. Today, Edward moved into his new home. Tonight, he will sleep somewhere designed to meet his needs. He&rsquo;ll have regular meals, a safe place to shower, help when he needs it, and the security of knowing where he is going to wake up tomorrow. Now we&rsquo;re asking you to help us keep the promise we made to him. Our first goal is to raise $3,600 to cover Edward&rsquo;s $300 monthly gap for the next year. A&nbsp;$25 or $50 gift gets us closer. $100 covers one-third of a month. $300 gives Edward a full month. And $3,600 fulfills our entire commitment to him. But we also know Edward won&rsquo;t be the last person who needs this kind of help. There will be another senior living somewhere that is no longer safe. Another person whose income almost covers assisted living&mdash;but not quite. Another call where a relatively small financial gap stands between someone and the care they need. We want to be able to say yes again. So if we raise more than Edward&rsquo;s $3,600, those donations will stay with the Golden Gap Foundation to help us prepare for the next senior who needs a bridge to safety. Edward&rsquo;s story could have ended very differently. Instead, today he went home.
