At Corkie&rsquo;s Cat Sanctuary, we are a small family owned farm in Lafayette County, Missouri, caring for a growing colony of rescue and barn cats abandoned on our property.&nbsp; We just received our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in February. We are currently waiting for our Missouri tax exempt status to be approved. Currently, we have 18 cats &mdash; all but three have been spayed or neutered through effort and fundraising &mdash; and we provide daily food, shelter, and have access to reliable veterinary&nbsp;care when needed. &nbsp;We have a combination of indoor and outdoor furry friends. Every single one is a rescue, including 6 babies born 3 weeks before their mama was killed by a grain truck. We pulled them out of the barn and bottle-fed them. All six are still with us. We are committed to humane care and population control, but the costs add up:&bull; Cat food &amp; supplements&bull; Veterinary care (vaccines, flea/parasite care)&bull; Spay/neuter costs, especially for ferals&bull; Traps, carriers, and enrichment supplies&bull; Shelters, warming and cooling spaces, along with heated water bowls These cats are all rescues, either dumped on our property (people can suck) or born to a feral who calls/called our barn home at some point. Barn cats tend to wander between farms, so we often see others who stop by occasionally. We daily feed between 18-22 kitties. Reduced-cost spay/neuter services are hard to come by in rural areas and often book up 4+ weeks in advance, making it difficult to live trap a feral cat on a specific day. We do our best to provide plenty of shelter, food, water, and any necessary medical care and would like to eventually include micro-chipping for our furry friends. Regardless of how they come to us, each cat who decides to join our colony &mdash; for however long &mdash; gets a name, some love and attention from afar, and all deserve a safe, healthy life.
