Dr. Timothy Egor Monster, PhD finally has a diagnosis and unfortunately, it&rsquo;s a big one. After an MRI with a veterinary neurologist, we learned that Monster has atlantoaxial (AA) luxation with severe spinal cord compression. Essentially, the first two vertebrae in his neck are unstable and sitting at an abnormal angle, putting significant pressure on his spinal cord and causing his weakness and wobbly little walk. The good news? His MRI showed no hydrocephalus or Chiari malformation, which makes treatment more promising. His neurologist recommends surgery to stabilize and fuse the joint, preventing further spinal cord damage and giving Monster the best chance at a safer, more active future. Because the damage is chronic, we don&#39;t know if Monster will ever be completely neurologically normal and that&#39;s okay. We love our wobbly little professor exactly as he is. Our goal is to stop the progression and give him the best chance to safely walk, run, play, and continue causing medically questionable amounts of chaos. Getting his diagnosis was $5,926.74 and his surgery and hospitalization are estimated at up to $15,380.38! Our fundraising goal: $21,307 For one tiny dog, our distinguished doctor has accumulated one very undistinguished medical bill.As a nonprofit sanctuary caring for special-needs dogs, we can only take on care like this because of the incredible people who stand behind them.
