They were returning home after a neurological consultation for Marianna, who is a one-year-old. Marianna has a very rare genetic disorder called Canavan disease.  The family travelled to California via a medical study program so that she can undergo a vast number of tests, which would determine if she would qualify for an experimental treatment to stop or slow down her disease.While in-flight, Joanna, 33 weeks pregnant at that time, began experiencing early labor and her water broke. The pilot was approved for an emergency landing in Salt Lake City, Utah.  The Loza family was transported by ambulance to one of the local hospitals, then moved again by ambulance to yet another hospital with a neonatal intensive care unit (CommonSpirit Holy Cross Hospital - Jordan Valley, located in West Jordan, Utah).The first couple of days were extremely stressful for Joanna and Tobiasz. The hospital staff did their best to maintain the pregnancy until week 34, so that their baby’s lungs had the opportunity to develop more.After landing in Salt Lake City, the Loza family’s luggage was missing and several local Polish families supplied them with basic items, including food, diapers, toys, clothing etc. Luckily, their baggage was located and sent back. A local family provided temporary housing for Tobiasz and his daughters, while mom remained on bed rest in the hospital. On Friday, November 8, Tobiasz, 4-year-old Rozalia and 1-year-old Marianna successfully returned to Rzeszow, Poland and since then applied for a US medical visa. Time is of essence as the Canavan disease causes degeneration of the white matter of the brain. Wednesday, November 13 was an amazing day;  Joanna gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, and the Loza family also was notified that Marianna was accepted for future treatment! If their US visa is granted in time, Tobiasz and Marianna will travel back to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital this December and begin the medical process. They will remain in California for six months so that their little one can be observed, and future treatment process can be monitored. Tobiasz is forced to take an unpaid leave from work so that he can accompany Marianna.Joanna is still staying at the Holy Cross Hospital-Jordan Valley in West Jordan, Utah.  Their newborn son, Ignacy is doing very well but is predicted to remain in NICU for approximately 4-6 weeks. The medical staff at the hospital has been very attentive and generous, however the fear of future medical bills for Joanna and Ignacy’s care and hospital stay are extremely stressful for the family.Our community has visited Joanna daily, offering food and necessary care items. Joanna was officially discharged yesterday but is rooming in the hospital with the baby, to be as close to him as possible while Ignacy is becoming stronger.The Lozas are extremely grateful for all the support received; continued visits, homemade meals,  and continued incoming donations. The funds from the fundraiser will go directly to the family,  to help them with any upcoming fees they may encounter with the immigration process, changing flights, medical care for Joanna, the early birth of baby Ignacy, and Tobiasz and Marianna’s upcoming stay in California.We wish to thank you for your generosity, continues support, your positive thoughts, and prayers for the Loza family.</div></blockquote>
