Our captioning boards are failing, and three shows are on the lineOn November 14, we have three performances, and we want every audience member to be able to follow every word. Our current open captioning board is old and failing. Without a working board, we would have to cancel captioned performances, and we don't want to cancel a single show or leave anyone out. We need to raise $15,000 by October 7 to get two new open captioning boards in place in time. Who is affected without a board• Deaf and hard of hearing theatergoers, who rely on captions to follow the dialogue and lyrics• Older adults with hearing loss, who would otherwise miss much of what is said and sung on stage• Families and friends who want to enjoy a show together, side by side• The performers and theaters who count on us to open their shows to everyoneWithout the board, these patrons lose their seat at the show. About Access VirginiaAccess Virginia is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides open captioning and audio description at live theatrical performances, so that Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Blind and Visually Impaired people can attend and experience the wonder of live entertainment. We also offer C.A.R.T., backstage tours, and artistic programs for youth and adults who are blind or hard of hearing. Our mission is simple: giving the gift of sight and sound, and opening the doors to entertainment. How you can helpEvery gift, whether it's $25, $100, or $500, brings us closer to $7,400 and keeps the captions on for November 14. Please give today and share this page with anyone who believes theater should be for everyone.
