For more than 40 years, Oakland Cooperative Playschool has been a special part of Douglas County&mdash;a place where little children take their first steps into learning, friendships begin, families find community, and countless memories are made.We are proud of what this little school has meant to generations of children and families.But today, we need our community to come together to help us save it. Our school was built on the belief that children thrive when they are surrounded by creativity, cooperation, connection, and people who genuinely care about them. We provide early learning for children from 18 months through Pre-K, creating a loving and supportive foundation before kindergarten. For many families, quality preschool has simply become too expensive. Even with two working parents, the cost of early education can be overwhelming. Families are working hard, doing everything they can, yet still have to ask themselves how they can afford to give their children the education they deserve. How is that fair?And for children who need a smaller, more nurturing environment, being placed into a large classroom with many other children can be overwhelming. These children may need more patience, individual attention, and time to build confidence and find their place. Every child deserves to be seen, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive.That is why small schools matter. That is why our little school matters.We work hard to keep tuition as affordable as possible, but keeping a small school like ours going takes more than tuition.
