Purpose:Our neighbors here in Durham, Chapel Hill/Carrboro, Hillsborough, and Roxboro have been recently affected by 500+ year flooding that has upended homes, businesses, and life in general for folks in the area. Particularly close to our heart among those affected are the members and staff of the Holt Athletic Association. In particular, Don and Janette Daves have put forth irrecoverible effort in terms of sweat and dollars into making the HAA an affordable and available organization for Durham youths to engage in the fellowship and lifelong benefits that involvement in team sports can provide, particularly to a population as diverse as North Durham. As a rugby club looking for a stable home in the West Triangle, HAA&#39;s commitment to developing kids into good neighbors and citizens through athletics at a low-cost or even loss for the sake of childhood development was a clear reason for us at Tobacco Road Rugby Club to sign onto the mission the Daves have set. We were fortunate to invest in regrading and expanding the fields when we did, but we have always known that our biggest goal in collaborating would be to improve the brick and mortar facilities that HAA has stewarded for future growth and development of their programs into new sports and age groups. We could not, however, have guessed that an epochal series of rain events would hit the HAA fields. Almost five feet of water inundated the shed/clubhouse/concession building. All the field maintenance and concession equipment, machinery, and appliances will be total losses in the absence of flood insurance after the fieds were indundated with nearly 5 feet of water. We&#39;re a young rugby club with low maintenance needs aside from finding fields to practice and play. With full disclosure, we&#39;ve invested a majority of the funds (~$20K) we&#39;ve ever scrounged into improving the facilities at Holt to accomodate rugby and also improve youth sport accessiblity in the Bull City. However, we are opening this Zeffy campaign for the full benefit of Holt Athletic Association. Each and every dollar donated will go towards rebuilding and improving access to youth sports in one of the most underserved areas in Durham. We hope that you will join with us in investing in youth sports in our area by donating to help save and preserve a truly charitable youth sports organization in need of serious help after a generational storm.
