Veterans The Gathering (VTG) is a program started in the PNW by a mental health counselor and combat veteran, &nbsp;and is spreading nationally. Our mission is to improve veteran&rsquo;s mental health &amp; reduce suicidality through in-person, nonelectronic gaming. VTG was started in response to deep cuts in funding to mental health services for veterans and a shortage of providers. VTG is not a counseling program, it is an outreach program built to bring veterans together. VTG does this by providing opportunities for veterans to come together and engage with each other through games. VTG engagement: Each VTG location is in a local card or game shop in-order to facilitate Veterans interacting in the community and support local businesses. Our initial location, in Wenatchee, WA was launched in 2025. The veterans there have built a strong network that has extended their engagement with each other well beyond the weekly events. They report reduced depression and anxiety, and have created a support system for themselves to see each other, and those close to them, through difficult times. &nbsp;This also promotes additional opportunities to reduce isolation by exposing participants to other events within the community on different nights.Providing this level of community support requires funding.&nbsp; Estimated minimum startup costs associated with Veterans the Gathering (excluding shipping to sites or printing/sending/receiving assessments) are $762.00 per site, and $4150.00 to start one site and support 12 Veterans with all materials needed for 1 year.&nbsp;This money provides durable materials that are used when every veteran presents at VTG to teach them how to play. It also provides each veteran the materials to play with the group but remain engaged, at no cost to them. Every veteran gets a new, 100 card pre-constructed deck to play with, 2 packs of cards to augment their decks, a box of protective sleeves to ensure the longevity of their decks, a box to keep their cards, and a bag of dice. Additionally, each veteran currently gets two packs of cards every month as long as they continue to engage.
