Celebrate 15 Years of Giving with Nana’s Kids Campaign 2026 Help continue Dorothy “Dottie” Gudger’s tradition of caring for local children. Known affectionately as “Nana,” Dorothy passed away in 2011, but her generosity lives on through Nana’s Kids Campaign. For the 2026 season, the Gudger family, representatives of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, the Boys & Girls Club of Oak Orchard-Riverdale, and other corporate and community partners are continuing the campaign named in her memory. Now celebrating 15 years of giving, the campaign carries forward the annual toy drive that the fire company conducted in the Oak Orchard, Riverdale, and Long Neck communities. A Family Tradition of GenerosityDorothy’s daughter, Carol Taylor, has addressed the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company each year since 2012, sharing how her mother connected with the community through giving. Dorothy purchased toys and clothes throughout the year for children in need. When children returned to school, she also bought school supplies and delivered them to Long Neck Elementary School. After Dorothy’s death in 2011, Carol’s children and nieces took Dorothy’s donations to County Bank on her behalf. That experience inspired the family’s dream of renaming the drive Nana’s Kids Campaign. In her remarks, Carol recalled approaching the fire company a year earlier with the idea and being excited by its openness to bringing local organizations together. She expressed how meaningful it was to see organizations her mother supported, lived near, and cared about unite to honor her memory. Carol and her sister, Teresa Gudger, thanked the following supporters for coming together to support their family and the community’s children:

Indian River Volunteer Fire Company: support for the family and local children through the community campaign.

Long Neck Elementary School: recognition from Carol and Teresa; also the school where Dorothy brought school supplies.

Boys & Girls Club of Oak Orchard-Riverdale: special thanks to Millie and Erica.

Community Church of Oak Orchard: recognition for its support.

Other corporate and community partners: thanks for joining this shared effort.

Continue Nana’s TraditionThe Gudger family’s website is up and running for the 2026 campaign.
