On July 22, IMPD officers Donald Meier, Jessica Dickinson, and Michael Totten shot and killed Dalys Jett, a 21-year-old college student and father to a young child. Since that day, Jett&#39;s family has been demanding answers.&nbsp; It took 3 weeks&nbsp;for the IMPD to respond to those demands, and what they offered was a slap in the face. On August 12, Dalys&rsquo;s father, Derrick Jett, was allowed to view a small portion of the bodycam footage of the minutes before the cops took Dalys&rsquo;s life. Rev. Davanta Scruggs, a Pastor and family friend serving as their spokesperson, released a statement that read: &ldquo;Here is what the family can tell you. In the recordings that were played to Dalys&rsquo; father yesterday, he did not see his son fire a weapon at a police officer. The family does not know what is in the recordings the department would not show him. That is exactly why they want them released.&rdquo; Rev. Scruggs reiterated that the family is not making any accusations. Unlike the cops and media stenographers, they want access to all of the evidence before doing so. How likely is it that, out of the entire body of material available, the cops wouldn&rsquo;t&nbsp;select footage containing a &ldquo;smoking gun,&rdquo; or definitive proof Jett shot at the cops? Why would they reserve that for the remaining footage they want to force the family to acquire through litigation? The IMPD will not serve justice; it will be fought for and won by the&nbsp;people. The state has plentiful resources; IMPD Chief Tanya Terry stood in front of the City-County Council on September 9 and asked for $400 million in 2027. That money will go to more cameras whose footage we will be barred from accessing, more weapons which will be used to kill our loved ones, and more &quot;training&quot; which they will call a solution to the continued murders of our community members. It is with this in mind that the Indianapolis Party for Socialism and Liberation&nbsp;has worked with the family to launch the Fight for Dalys Jett Fund. Donations to the fund go directly to the family&#39;s continued fight for justice. The funds will pay for the costs that arise in the course of this work: fees for reserving space and technology so the family can reach broader sections of the working class; attorney fees and costs associated with legal filings; and material costs including signs, flyers, buttons - anything and everything that can be used to further the cause.
