July 27, 2026 - Started like any other Monday at Lake Edge Learning Center. The weather was perfect, kids were playing with teachers and friends, and our big kids went on a nature hike around Doty Island. Around lunch, teachers&#39; and staff&#39;s cell phones started to go off with severe weather alerts, and as a precaution, we decided to take shelter. &nbsp; Teachers worked quickly and calmly to direct children to the &ldquo;safe spot&rdquo; within the inside walls of the building. Unfortunately, LELC was in the direct path of the EF-3 tornado. Thankfully, there were no injuries to the children or staff. Our building and the land surrounding us on Doty Island do have significant damage. Many have reached out offering to volunteer their time and donate items, and unfortunately, we have limited access to the building.&nbsp; So what now? As many of our families knew, before this tornado, the LELC admin team and board were working hard to secure a new long-term location for Lake Edge. We are moving even more quickly to secure our space and get it move-in ready. Until we have finalized a few more details, we need to keep our potential future site confidential.&nbsp; In the meantime, please consider a monetary donation in support of our rebuild and future move efforts, which are now thoroughly overlapping. The tornado may have taken our current space, but we are optimistic and energetic for the future of Lake Edge Learning Center.&nbsp; Our mission is to nurture children alongside their families in an inclusive, home-like community rooted in nature. Through hands-on and creative experiences, we nurture curiosity, connection, and the messy and magical parts of childhood.
