I&#39;m Lavar Askew&mdash;an aerospace engineer and computer scientist with 20+ years in industry, including building systems for Intel. In my work, a math error doesn&#39;t just cost points on a test. It means catastrophic failure. Multimillion-dollar losses. Real stakes. But I&#39;ve also spent enough time in classrooms to understand the gap: traditional education teaches math as abstract theory, disconnected from anything students can see or touch. Students don&#39;t hate math. They hate not knowing why it matters. That&#39;s why I founded The Ready Now Foundation. What We DoThrough our Engineering Shadow Program, high schoolers work directly alongside me&mdash;a working aerospace engineer&mdash;to build and race AI-powered robots. They apply the algebra and geometry they already know to program real movement, train machine learning models, and debug systems in real time. Math with your hands. Not on paper. By the end of one week, students present their work to industry professionals from companies like Google, ASUS, and General Atomics.
