I am no stranger to heart break. On Easter 2023, my daughter Nellie was found floating in a backyard pool. She was found unresponsive, and by the grace of God, was revived. The heartbreak continued as we were told the prognosis was poor and Nellie would have 48 hours or less to survive. Thankfully, Nellie survived the drowning, but we were told that she suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and she would be on a vegetative state for the remainder of her life.&nbsp; As you might expect, life has never been the same for our family. The day Nellie nearly drowned changed everything. We suddenly found ourselves navigating a world of hospitals, therapies, medical equipment, specialists, insurance challenges, and uncertainty about what the future would hold. While we were focused on helping Nellie survive and recover, we quickly learned that many families facing pediatric brain injuries struggle to access the resources, support, and financial assistance they desperately need. Despite the devastating prognosis we were given, Nellie continues to fight every day. Her strength, resilience, and determination have inspired us to keep believing in possibilities rather than limitations. Along this journey, we have met countless families facing similar challenges&mdash;families who need adaptive equipment, therapy services, financial assistance, emotional support, and hope. That is why I created The BRIGHT Foundation (Brain Recovery Initiative: Growing, Healing, Thriving). Our mission is to provide resources, support, and opportunities to children with brain injuries and the families who love them.
