One year ago I partook in the most life changing experience. I traveled to Kurland Village South Africa with the Sound of a smile program.  From the people I met and the culture I was immersed in was incredible. Although I was there to volunteer and support Kurland, Kurland touched me in ways I never thought possible.Kurland village's unemployment rate hovers around 70%. The average daily pay in Kurland is roughly 200 Rand. Just about $10 US dollars is one days worth of pay in Kurland. With that said... life is too short so why not run a marathon and raise some $$! Ive decided to run the Newport RI marathon in honor of Kurland. I will be training for the next 14 weeks. My goal is to raise $1,000 for the Sound of a Smile program by April 19th. $1000 dollars in can support Kurland with building houses, supplying the soup kitchens and going towards the educare program for children.
