Support MAJENIN - A Palestinian love story the critically acclaimed, award winning play. "Toeing the lines between stand-up and theatre, comedy and poignancy, it is a play that refuses to be forgotten.” ★★★★★ The Student ★★★★ One4 Review★★★★ Binge Fringe★★★★ Everything Theatre "They talk about the right to return. No one talks about our right to love." MAJENIN — A Palestinian Love Story is a darkly funny, romantic and ultimately heartbreaking story about a Palestinian comedian and a Palestinian artist whose intense, short‑lived love affair pushes them both to the edge of majenin – madness. Written and performed by Palestinian comedian Marena Riyad, the play is heading back home this April to Dallas, TX after a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe — and we need your help to get it on stage in Dallas and across America. Why this project matters now MAJENIN refuses the lens of victimhood. It is not a story about the occupation; it is a story about two people who, like all of us, are trying to find someone to come home to. It treats Palestinian life with humour, complication and grace, focusing not on news headlines but on the human experience of love, fear and longing. In a moment when Palestinian stories are too often reduced to suffering alone, MAJENIN insists on the right to be complicated, to be messy, to be in love. Bringing this show to Dallas, TX and across America, puts a tender, contemporary Palestinian love story in front of thousands of people who might never otherwise encounter it. What is MAJENIN? Written and performed by Marena Riyad, MAJENIN is a two-hander that blends stand-up comedy with intimate theatre It is, very simply, a love story between two Palestinian artists in exile, trying to create something safe in a world defined by impermanence. Who is involved?MAJENIN features two Palestinian performers, led by writer-performer Marena Riyad. We are currently building the creative team for Dallas, TX and will be announcing it soon. Writer & PerformerMarena is a Palestinian writer, comedian and actress. She spent her childhood in a refugee camp in Tulkarem and her teenage years in Texas. MAJENIN is her first full‑length play. Upcoming Runs:Nov 23-28 at Theatre 503, London.April 9-11 at AT&T Performing Arts Center, Dallas, TX. Previous runs:August 1st - London previews at Pleasance.Aug 5-31st - Edinburgh Fringe Festival Please support us to help this show have a life post fringe! What does your donation support? Here’s where your money goes: 1. Cast fees for two Palestinian and Arab actors across rehearsals and the full Dallas run — 3 weeks of paid work for the company. This is the largest single line in the budget, and the one we are most determined to honour.2. Set, costume and production — kept simple by design, but the show still needs the materials to build it.3. Travel and accommodation to Dallas, TX from other states in America. 4. Marketing, press and listings so critics fill seats and the show reaches the audiences who need it most.6. Onward touring — keeping the show alive after Edinburgh as it transfers to Dallas. Due to Palestinians and Arabs having restrictions on movement to the UK and USA, we have to work harder to find talent and support them where necessary. Our Team at Kufiya Comedy has made it our mission is to support MENA/SWANA artists by providing paying opportunities that help advance their careers and craft, and push back on the narrative formed about those underrepresented communities. Edinburgh Fringe Festival is the largest theatre festival in the world. It was our dream to bring this story and represent Palestinian storytelling to the world, and we did it! We got the incredible reviews, memories, and a full fledged story that has been proven to be a success. Now we want to bring the show back to Dallas. It took everything and the support from our UK community to help us actualize this dream, but it wasn't cheap. In a sea of 4,500 shows, we were one of less than 10 Palestinian shows at the festival, and the only that was a play. We are pursuing several grants alongside this campaign, but the gap is real, and it is mostly the cost of paying artists and creative team fairly.
