Each of us has two copies of the CACNA1A gene, which is essential for communication between brain cells. A change in this gene can cause a range of lifelong symptoms, including neurodevelopmental differences, epilepsy, ataxia (impaired balance or coordination), hemiplegic migraines, eye movement disorders, and overall body movement disorders such as dystonia.   Individuals living with CACNA1A-related disorders often require physical, occupational, and speech therapy, as well as adaptive equipment to increase their independence and safety. Currently, there is no targeted treatment or cure. Our mission is inspired by a local child living with a CACNA1A variant who experiences many of these symptoms and uses multiple types of adaptive equipment. Despite her challenges, she is filled with joy and has a deep desire to help others. Her spirit motivates us to Conquer CACNA1A & Care for Others.
