Our MissionThe Glendale Firefighters Cancer and Mental Health Foundation was created around a simple truth: Cancer does not retire when we do, and mental health is a lifelong journey. Firefighters spend their careers facing repeated occupational exposures and traumatic experiences while serving the public. Those exposures can affect both physical and mental health for years, and sometimes decades, after a firefighter leaves active service. While active Glendale firefighters have access to cancer screening and mental health resources through the City, those resources are not available to retirees at the same level once they leave active service. The risks, however, do not disappear at retirement. That is why we exist. Our mission is to help bridge that gap by improving access to cancer screenings and early detection for retired firefighters while also providing mental health resources, treatment support, education, and assistance for firefighters and their families when they need it most. We believe the men and women who dedicate their careers to protecting our community deserve continued support throughout every stage of their lives. Firefighters spend their careers protecting others. Our goal is to make sure someone is still protecting them, long after the uniform comes off.
