Down where Robinson Creek bends, just past the spring, across from the great stone wall, and upstream of the upper falls, sits a treasured old cabin named &ldquo;Birds&rsquo; Nest.&rdquo; It was one of the first cabins that the Hall family built for the Fallhall Glen Resort (ca. 1925), providing a tranquil place for couples or small families to rest for a few days. In the early days of WCYC, the cabin was regularly used for campers. If every bunk was full, it could sleep ten, but it was tight. The only time that I (Lance Hawley) stayed in Bird&rsquo;s Nest was as a child, roughly forty years ago, when our family took a few days at camp for our family vacation. Since that time, the cabin has been mostly vacant and succumbed to the distress of time. For years, campers and staff have been talking about restoring Birds&rsquo; Nest, but other projects took precedence and our beloved cabin by the creek wore down. Now it is being restored! This year at Senior Camp, restoration began, as Wayne Hawley taught a class called &ldquo;The Carpenter&rsquo;s Friends&rdquo; that involved eight volunteer campers and a few staff. It met for two class periods for ten days. Each day began with a reflection on Jesus (the Carpenter) and our friendship with Him. Then the crew got to work. According to Wayne, &ldquo;Those kids worked their hearts out.&rdquo; In spite of the buggy, sweaty, arduous work, &ldquo;There was not one complaint.&rdquo; By the second week of Senior Camp, they had made significant improvements. The footprint of Birds&rsquo; Nest will be the same, and the design is much the same as well, although a few updates are necessary. The cabin may be used for campers, but it is more likely to be like the old resort cabin, being useful for families who serve at camp sessions or are looking for a Fallhall getaway. After Senior Camp, Patrick continued the construction. Currently, the new exterior walls are up and the roof is on, but windows, doors, exterior siding, soffit and fascia; and the inside are unfinished. Please help us complete the restoration of Bird&rsquo;s Nest with a donation. Our fundraising goal is $20,000.00. It will be gratifying to the campers who got the project started to see it completed when they arrive back at camp next summer.
