Entire neighborhoods were bulldozed and replaced with parks. Since that time, a heaviness &mdash; almost a spiritual oppression&nbsp;&mdash; has lingered in the soul of the city.The Rise-Up Rocky Mount movement was born out of a burden to see the light of God&rsquo;s love break through the darkness. Our vision is to transform the city from a place known for violence, racism, and drug abuse into a city overflowing with love, unity, creativity, and small business vitality. A City Close to My HeartMy name is John High, and I was born in Rocky Mount in 1975. I grew up there, graduated from high school there, and I still have family in the area. I&rsquo;ve seen the challenges firsthand &mdash; violence, addiction, poverty, and division. In fact, the city has even been referred to as &quot;Murder Mount.&quot; That breaks my heart.But I believe this city has a prophetic destiny. I believe it&rsquo;s meant to be known not for its struggles but for its transformation &mdash; a place where God&rsquo;s love rewrites the narrative.
