The Brother Bear Foundation was created in memory of Brother Bear, an elderly quarter horse who served humans for three decades and then starved to death in a field of grass because no one took care of his teeth. We were too late for Brother&hellip; but not for the many sick and debilitated animals that are dumped daily into sale pens that funnel unwanted horses to slaughter. Our mission is to pull the sickest and most disabled animals out of the slaughter pipeline and give them a chance to heal and live. &nbsp;The expenses for each animal only begin with the fee to obtain their release from the slaughter pen &mdash; to save each animal the costs of quarantine, veterinary care, medications, boarding, etc., also have to be covered. &nbsp;Frail, sick or injured animals &mdash; often aged &mdash; can require significant resources to return to health &mdash; but our goal is to honor Brother Bear and get them there. Every dollar you donate is used in service to these animals. The Brother Bear Foundation is managed at no cost entirely by volunteers.
