There is no story more powerful—and no legacy more dynamic—than that of Black women. We are a multifaceted force of excellence, resilience, and brilliance. It is with great pride that we present The Power of Her Presence: Honoring Black Women in Florida, an exhibit that celebrates the lives and legacies of over 50 remarkable women who have shaped and continue to shape our communities. These honorees—whether born in Florida, longtime residents, or current change-makers—represent the extraordinary reach of Black women’s influence. From a Pulitzer Prize winner to an Olympic gold medalist, and an internationally celebrated gospel legend, they reflect the many ways Black women lead, inspire, and excel across every sector—from courtrooms to classrooms, stages to Senate floors, and beyond. This exhibit carries special meaning as it is dedicated to the legendary Dr. Johnnetta Betsch Cole. A trailblazer in education, anthropology, and social justice, Dr. Cole was the first Black woman to lead Spelman College and later Bennett College. Her lifelong commitment to uplifting Black communities, particularly women and girls, continues to illuminate paths for future generations. Her legacy anchors this project and inspires everything it stands for.
