Hi Family, We are the People’s Coalition to Stop Deed Theft. We are writing from Black Bedford-Stuyvesant at a heartbreaking and deeply vulnerable moment. We are in a crisis and the the time for action is now!!! We stand beside families fighting deed theft, mortgage fraud, foreclosure abuse, eviction, and displacement. Our goal is to raise $100,000 by Oct 1, to defend families fighting deed theft and others similarly situated, fund emergency legal action, and protect our communities. Families Are Losing More Than Their Homes Approximately 3,500 deed-theft complaints were reported across New York City from 2014 through 2023, primarily in Brooklyn and Queens. Black elders and longtime homeowners are frequently targeted by predatory interests seeking valuable properties. We Stand With All FamiliesWe fight alongside Carmella Charrington as she fights to remain in the Bedford-Stuyvesant home connected to her father and six decades of family history. Her case unfolded amid contested property proceedings and what the Coalition alleges was the kidnapping of our beloved Allman Charrington. Carmella’s elderly, 80-year-old father was taken away from his loved ones by what the Coalition alleges was a crime syndicate involving Judge Rachel Freier, the NYC Sheriff, and Georgia authorities. He was disappeared without due process under the color of authority. He is now on Pyschotrpic medication and is now wearing Depends (adult diapers). The Charrington family has not heard from him or been given the reassurance every family deserves: that he is safe, that he is being properly cared for, and that he knows his loved ones are searching for him.Imagine fighting for your home while also being separated from your father and not hearing his voice for more than 45 days. This is not simply a property dispute. It is a family experiencing fear, grief, displacement, and modern-day slave catching. We also stand beside Ms. Patricia Gary (now displaced), Queen Mother Delois Blakely who are Harlem resident for 40 years before facing eviction amid allegations involving mortgage and insurance fraud. We are fighting alongside Mrs. Florence Litchmore-Smith, Randy Connor, Pastor Marc Pierre, and many others. Their homes carry decades of sacrifice. Their stories deserve to be heard.
