We are writing from Black Bedford-Stuyvesant at a heartbreaking and deeply vulnerable moment.This is an emergency.We stand beside families fighting deed theft, mortgage fraud, foreclosure abuse, eviction, and displacement. Our goal is to raise $100,000 by August 31 to defend the Charrington family and others similarly situated, fund emergency legal action, and protect our communities. Families Are Losing More Than Their Homes Approximately 3,500 deed-theft complaints were reported across New York City from 2014 through 2023, primarily in Brooklyn and Queens. Black elders and longtime homeowners are frequently targeted by predatory interests seeking valuable properties. We Stand With Carmella and Her FatherWe fight alongside Carmella Charrington as she fights to remain in the Bedford-Stuyvesant home connected to her father and six decades of family history.Her case unfolded amid contested property proceedings and what the Coalition alleges was the kidnapping of our beloved Allman Charrington. Carmella&rsquo;s elderly, 80-year-old father was taken away from his loved ones by what the Coalition alleges was a crime syndicate involving Judge Rachel Freier, the NYC Sheriff, and Georgia authorities. He was disappeared without due process under the color of authority. It was known by everyone involved that he was domiciled here in New York City. Because of his wealth&mdash;what he worked for his entire life&mdash;he has now been missing for more than 45 days.&nbsp; The Charrington family has not heard from him or been given the reassurance every family deserves: that he is safe, that he is being properly cared for, and that he knows his loved ones are searching for him.Imagine fighting for your home while also being separated from your father and not hearing his voice for more than 45 days.
