We are Sweet Water Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, and lifelong housing of animals in need. On August 1st, our sanctuary suffered a devastating blow when a massive 40‑foot tree fell on our property, crushing one of our cat houses, destroying part of our barn, and taking out a long stretch of fencing. The impact also knocked out the power line, utility box, and meter, leaving the entire facility without electricity and water. We are grateful that every animal has been accounted for and no injuries were found, but the damage to our sanctuary is extensive. This has created an immediate and unexpected financial drain on our already limited resources. Sweet Water Rescue and Rehab is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit sanctuary that has been an integral part of our community for over 10 years. We currently care for more than 250 cats, along with 15 horses, donkeys, chickens, rabbits, and pigs. Our shelter is funded 100% by community support and volunteers, and we rely entirely on donations to keep our animals safe, fed, and cared for. The damage from this storm involves various parts of the rescue daily needs. We are responsible for replacing the power pole, meter, and utility box, which requires hiring a specialized electrician and covering the cost of all materials. Beyond the electrical repairs, we must rebuild the cat house that provides our sanctuary residents with shelter, comfort, and protected food/water stations. We also need to repair the damaged barn that houses several of our larger animals and stores essential supplies. The fallen tree itself must be professionally removed due to its size and the danger it poses. Because of the force of the impact and the way the tree fell, we expect additional structural or property damage to become evident as cleanup continues.&nbsp; As of right now, the entire shelter is without power.
