In the early hours of Sunday, September 14, one of our own Battalion Chiefs was struck by a vehicle while assisting at a crash on I-75. He was on scene doing what he has dedicated his life to: protecting others. Thanks to the swift actions of his brothers and sisters, he received ALS medical treatment and was transported as a trauma alert. He now remains in stable yet critical condition at Gulf Coast Medical Center, but his road to recovery will be long and challenging. As firefighters, we know the risks we face when we respond to emergencies. But when tragedy strikes one of our own, we lean on our community for strength. This fundraiser will help support our Battalion Chief and his family during this difficult time by covering: -Medical expenses and ongoing rehabilitation-Family support while he recovers-Daily living costs, food, and unforeseen financial burdens Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference. This challenge was obviously unexpected, and it truly sucks. The support we have received makes it more bearable, and gives us some positivity to focus on. Overall I am recovering well. I will have some physical challenges to work on for the foreseeable future, but despite a traumatic brain injury, my mind is strong and thankfully no spinal injuries are present. I remember having a conversation with my wife early on in the hospital and asking how can we do this financially, and she told me about the help we were getting from all of you. &nbsp;While I don&rsquo;t like that I needed help, scrolling through the people who cared enough to take the time and contribute was overwhelming. I saw friends, coworkers, people I haven&rsquo;t talked to in years, and some I don&rsquo;t even know. To receive that kind of support is humbling and motivating. We thank all of you.&nbsp; Your gifts allowed my wife to be by my side through all of this. Having her with me is the support I could not do without. She has pushed me to fight to get better, advocated for me when I could not, and she has taken notes on everything the doctors and therapists have told us. Plus seeing her everyday, I was reminded of why I was fighting to get back to where I was before I got hit.&nbsp; Thank you all again. We have a little more time in therapy here in Atlanta.
