Our robot wasn't built for our students. It was built BY them. With guidance and support from their mentors, students designed, fabricated, wired, programmed, tested, iterated, and problem-solved their way from an idea to a competition-ready machine. They learned to use tools and technology, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems, write and test code, work under deadlines, and make decisions as a team. And when something didn't work - which happens a lot in robotics - they learned to figure out why, find a solution, and try again. Those experiences teach far more than engineering. Our students are developing problem-solving, teamwork, communication, perseverance, and leadership skills that will serve them well, regardless of the careers they ultimately pursue. As a Title I, inner-city school, the promotion of both STEM and business skills are vital to student success. Running a competitive robotics team is a significant financial undertaking. We require specialized tools and equipment, robot components, electronics, materials and replacement parts, along with competition registration fees. There are also costs associated with getting our students to competitions, including transportation, lodging, and meals while traveling. Unlike many extracurricular activities, the robot is redesigned and rebuilt each year, making these expenses ongoing. Your support allows us to focus on giving students the best possible hands-on experience without the cost of participation becoming a barrier.
