For fourteen years, TechKno Academy has taught film, music and sound to young people on Chicago&#39;s South Side. More than 500 students since 2012. This campaign funds one cohort: 15 students, 10 weeks, after school, starting in late September. Over the 10 weeks students write, produce, and design sound for a short film; write, produce, and record original music, culminating in a showcase of their work. But most importantly, they discover career paths they had not imagined were open to them. Each cohort is taught by working music producers, recording artists, film directors, audio engineers and videographers. They earn their living doing what they teach, and they teach because someone once gave them the same opening. This is what every contribution supports. Industry instructors, current equipment, and current software are what separate a production education from a hobby class, and none of it is free. $41,250&nbsp;runs the entire cohort, instruction and supplies.That is about $2,700 a student, or $270 a week each.&nbsp;Roughly 80 cents of every dollar goes to instruction and running the program; the rest covers materials and closing showcase.
