Dear Allies, This year marks a profound and significant milestone: ten years since the start of the Movement for Black Lives. A decade ago, in the wake of traumatizing injustice, a fire was ignited – a collective cry for dignity and the fundamental right to exist without fear. As we reflect on this tenth anniversary, we want to share with you the enduring story of Black organizers and families who have been at the very heart of this movement: a story woven with threads of struggle, punctuated by moments of triumph, and grounded in an unwavering stillness of purpose. Black Americans have faced unimaginable hurdles, navigating grief, exhaustion, and constant threats, yet resilience has been a beacon in the darkest of times. There have been moments of powerful triumph. We have seen shifts in public consciousness, legislative changes, and a growing global understanding of the urgent need for racial justice. These victories, however hard-won, are a testament to the tireless advocacy, strategic organizing, and unwavering commitment of Black communities.  The fight for true equity and liberation is far from over. Racism and oppression continue to manifest in insidious ways, impacting every aspect of Black life, from economic opportunity to mental health, from the classroom to the courtroom. The progress we have made is fragile and constantly under threat. This is why, more than ever, we still need your unwavering support and solidarity. The fight for Black lives is not solely a Black fight. Your voice, your advocacy, your resources, and your commitment are vital. To celebrate and honor Black Lives near and far, Cleveland is the host city of the M4BL 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY CONVENING! July 24th-27th! Movement 4 Black Lives is celebrating a decade of embedded action, relationship building, and shared life histories.  Here’s the backstory: On July 24, 2015, the movement first convened at Cleveland State University, where between 1,500 and 2,000 activists gathered to participate in open discussions and demonstrations. The conference initially attempted to "strategize ways for the Movement for Black Lives to hold law enforcement accountable for their actions on a national level".However, the conference resulted in the formation of a much more significant social movement. At the end of the three-day conference, on July 26, the Movement for Black Lives initiated a year-long "process of convening local and national groups to create a United Front".  This year-long process ultimately resulted in the establishment of an organizational platform that articulates the goals, demands, and policies for which the Movement for Black Lives supports in order to achieve the "liberation" of black communities across America. Now, the Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) is a coalition of more than 50 groups representing the interests of Black communities across the United States, and this year, we’re welcoming them back to Cleveland July 24th - 27th. Your ongoing support for Black Lives Matter Cleveland has played a crucial role in fostering positive change in our community.
