Great Lakes Great Responsibility is working to create a cleaner and healthier freshwater future. As a marine debris prevention and removal nonprofit, we focus on hands-on action and education. We give people the tools and knowledge they need to care for the Great Lakes through organized cleanups, environmental education, and awareness-building. Our Great Lakes Cleanup Mini Grant Program and our upcoming self-serve beach cleanup station program support our five-year plan by making it easier for anyone in the region to take action for our lakes. When cleanups are accessible, more people get involved, and our freshwater benefits. Since 2020, our volunteers, known as Great Lakes Guardians, have removed more than 660,000 pieces of trash from the Great Lakes basin. This work shows how much progress is possible when people come together.
