In 2025, the National Association of EMTs recognized him with the Wellness and Resilience Award for a reason: Bil didn&#39;t just respond to emergencies, he worked to protect the people who respond to them. That work is the heart of this fund. Bil believed mental health resilience couldn&#39;t wait for a crisis to force the conversation &mdash; it had to be built into the culture of EMS long before that moment came. He put that belief into action by establishing a peer support program within Neptune Township EMS that grew far beyond what anyone first imagined, and he spent years pushing to destigmatize the judgment that keeps first responders from asking for help. He did this in an industry where burnout, PTSD, and suicide rates run higher than almost any other profession, and where asking for support is too often seen as a weakness instead of the strength it actually is. Bil died in the line of duty on August 3, 2026. He leaves behind his wife Kristin, his son Sebastian, and a statewide EMS community that he trained, mentored, and looked out for at every level &mdash; from the rig to the region.
