In 2026, the historic Hamilton County Sheriff&rsquo;s Residence &amp; Jail celebrates its 150th anniversary. Since 1876, this landmark on the Courthouse Square has witnessed Hamilton County grow and change. Once home to county sheriffs and their families and the county jail, today it serves our community as a museum dedicated to preserving and sharing Hamilton County history. As we celebrate this milestone, the Hamilton County Historical Society invites you to help us care for this historic landmark and prepare it for its next chapter. Our $65,000 Preserving 150 Years Campaign has two important goals: Preserve the Place and Open the Doors. Preserve the Place &mdash; $15,000A 150-year-old building requires thoughtful, ongoing care. Approximately $15,000 will support preservation and museum improvements, including:<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Repairing ceilings and walls affected by a previous roof leak</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Replacing worn flooring and carpeting where needed</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Refreshing interior paint</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Replacing aging curtains and blinds with window coverings that better protect historic photographs, documents, textiles, artifacts, and exhibits from damaging sunlight</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Improving museum spaces to provide a safe, welcoming experience for our visitors</li></ul>These may seem like everyday improvements, but in a historic museum, they have a greater purpose. A repaired wall protects an exhibit. The right window covering helps preserve an irreplaceable photograph. Safe, well-maintained spaces allow us to welcome visitors while responsibly caring for the history entrusted to us. Open the Doors &mdash; $50,000 For many years, limited staffing has meant that the Sheriff&rsquo;s Residence &amp; Jail Museum has primarily been able to welcome the public on Fridays and Saturdays. As Hamilton County continues to grow, we want our museum&rsquo;s accessibility to grow with it. Additional staffing will also strengthen collections care, exhibits, educational programming, volunteer coordination, visitor services, and the important work that happens behind the scenes.We want to do more than preserve this historic building&mdash;we want our community to experience it. $150 for 150 Years In honor of this milestone, please consider making a $150 anniversary gift toward our $65,000 goal.Every gift matters.
